I took this photo at Apollo Park in Lancaster, California.
The Chinese goose is a breed of domesticated goose descended from the wild swan goose, which originated in China. Chinese geese differ from wild birds in much larger size (up to 5–10 kg in males, 4–9 kg in females) and in having a strongly developed basal bulge at the top of the beak. The bulge at the top of the beak is more prominent in men than in women. It takes several months for the bud to become pronounced enough to be used to determine sex. Chinese geese are close cousins to the African goose, a heavier breed that is also descended from the swan goose.
Chinese geese come in two varieties: brown, similar to the wild swan goose, and white. Although many Chinese domestic geese have a body type similar to other breeds, breed standards, as defined in the American Poultry Association Standard of Perfection and other sources, require a taller, leaner bird.
Chinese geese are among the best laying goose breeds. A female Chinese goose can lay 50 to 60 eggs during the breeding season (February to June), although there are reports of Chinese geese laying up to 100 eggs during this period.
