Description
Mather Point is from Gran Canyon National Park at Arizona.
Mather Point located in the South Rim of Grand Canyon National Park marks the northern edge of a high plateau whose gray-green forests stand out in vivid contrast to the arid lands below the rim. From here the cliffs of Grande Canyon drop 5,000 feet (1,500m) to the Colorado River, crossing several biotic zones. This is a landscape characterized by abundant sunshine, extreme of temperature, and long periods of drought, punctuated by downpours in summer and snow in winter. Precipitation on the South Rim average 15 inches (38cm) per year, twice the received at the river but half that received on the North Rim, just ten miles across the canyon. Even here at 7,000 feet (2,100 m) above sea level the climate is semi-arid.
